IQ tests have long influenced educational and psychological assessments, but concerns remain about their fairness and impact on diverse student populations. In this Education for Change Public Schools-sponsored discussion, experts explore how to ensure more just and accurate assessments in today’s educational landscape.
Presenters: John Kelly, PhD, Jack A. Naglieri, PhD, and Tulio Otero, PhD
Presentation was sponsored by Education for Change Public Schools in Oakland, CA
On April 24, Dr. Jack A. Naglieri presented "PASS Neurocognitive Profiles for 2E Gifted Students with Dyslexia, Autism, and ADHD: Implications for Assessment and Instruction" at the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) Symposium. With over 40 years of expertise, Dr. Naglieri shared his groundbreaking research in psychology and intelligence measurement, focusing on how twice-exceptional (2e) students can be accurately identified and supported. His suite of research-backed assessments provides key insights into how 2e students learn and thrive.
During the NASP 2021 Virtual Convention, Dr. Jack A. Naglieri explored the role of IQ tests in identifying intellectually gifted students and discussed a critical issue—how traditional assessments can be influenced by prior knowledge, often leading to lower scores for certain groups of students. This concern was first raised in Army Mental Tests (1920) by Yoakum & Yerkes, highlighting long-standing challenges in intelligence testing. In this session, Dr. Naglieri examines these issues and presents solutions for improving fairness in cognitive assessment.

Why do we measure intelligence the way we do—and is it effective? In this presentation, Dr. Jack A. Naglieri explores the historical misconceptions behind traditional IQ tests and their impact on intellectual assessment, Specific Learning Disability (SLD) determination, and instructional planning. Discover how shifting toward modern assessment methods, such as the Cognitive Assessment System (CAS2), can improve evaluation accuracy and intervention planning.
In this three-part webinar series, Dr. Jack A. Naglieri explores the history of traditional IQ and achievement tests and challenges conventional methods of measuring intelligence. He asks a thought-provoking question: "Why do we measure intelligence the way we do?"
This series delves into the evolution of intelligence testing, examines its limitations, and introduces PASS Theory as a more effective approach to assessing cognitive abilities.
This session offers school psychologists a straightforward approach to using the ‘third method’ for SLD eligibility determination, focusing on classification and remediation. It reviews the effectiveness of traditional IQ and second-generation tests (e.g., CAS2) for SLD identification and socially just assessment. The session emphasizes a step-by-step analysis using PASS theory to measure 'basic psychological processes' aligned with California’s definitions of SLD and Dyslexia.
How do Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) differ in cognitive and behavioral assessments? In this session, Dr. Jack A. Naglieri explores the importance of evaluating behaviors and PASS cognitive processes to enhance the identification and support of individuals with ASD.
In this MHS-sponsored presentation, Dr. Jack A. Naglieri introduces a five-dimensional model of Executive Function (EF) designed to provide a comprehensive and practical approach to EF assessment. This model is an essential framework for psychologists, educators, and clinicians aiming to enhance cognitive, academic, and life skills through targeted assessment and intervention.
